Henry Carnell is a journalist, producer, and science writer based in Oregon. His work has been published by Mother Jones, The Washington Blade, Quanta, 5280 Magazine, and Oregon State University. It has also been republished by Inside Climate News, Grist, Canada’s National Observer, LGBTQ Nation, and Them.
He is also completing a part-time masters degree in library and information science at University of Washington, focusing on information literacy and digital preservation. He thinks journalism should be an accessible information resource.
Previously, he was a 2024-2025 digital fellow at the Center for Investigative Reporting where he helped launch the Climate Desk weekly newsletter and produced videos that garnered millions of views. In 2023-2024, he was a Ben Bagdikian Editorial Fellow at Mother Jones where his joint investigation into conversion therapy was nominated for a 2025 GLAAD award and a Digital Equity Fellow with The Washington Blade and News is Out where he covered technology.
